Finding a qualified, experienced and trained Board Certified Plastic Surgeon is our number one recommendation. The gold standard in cosmetic plastic surgery is a doctor that has been accepted into The American Society of Plastic Surgeons and The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Look for the theses logos when choosing a plastic surgeon. If your plastic surgeon has these logos that means that they are Board Certified in Plastic Surgery and that they have been accepted into these prestigious societies.

Website Update: Lower Body Lift Photos.
0Scottsdale – In preparation for our first seminar this year, the Plastic Surgery after Major Weight Loss Seminar, we have updated our website photos for lower body lift surgery.
We added 5 additional before and after photos sets of body lift surgery (click here for photos). All the additional photos were performed on patients after major weight loss. All of the patients had either bariatric surgery like gastric bypass surgery or lap banding.
Some lost weight following a strict diet and exercise regiment. We also added an additional before and after photo gallery named body contouring surgery. We also updated the text so our patients could understand about the body mass index better.
In the description section of the before and after photos, the maximum body mass index and the body mass index on the day of surgery are discussed. I believe this will be very helpful for patients contemplating body lift to know these numbers. For body lift, the body mass index is very important in determining the ultimate results of surgery, risks and expectations.
The greater the difference in the body mass numbers, the greater the change in the central body, and the more dramatic the change after lower body lift surgery.
On one section of our website, you can find a great description of the lower body lift surgery options. The body lift section discusses the pertinent points of lower body lift incisions for major weight loss patients, the pros and cons, and advantages and disadvantages. There’s also a video testimonial from a previous patients. In addition, additional web-pages about the technique of body lift and belt lipectomy are described.
The Plastic Surgery after Major Weight Loss Seminar is scheduled for February 2nd, 2011. Please contact our office at (480) 970-2580 to reserve your seat. The seminar is being held in our office, the AB Guerra Plastic Surgery Center, 8765 E. Bell Road, Suite 104, Scottsdale, AZ 85260.

Lower Body Lift, MAP, and Lovenox: III.
0Scottsdale – This is the third and final part of a three part blog series in which we discuss the relationship between lower bodylift, mean arterial pressure and low molecular weight heparin, Lovenox®.
A Scientific Study in Plastic Surgery.
Here we summarize a recent plastic surgery study which looks at the effect blood pressure management on the risks of bleeding after major body contouring surgery. When using Lovenox®, there is always an increase in the risk of bleeding during and after plastic surgery, because it is a blood thinner. The study was performed by the Department of Plastic Surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.
Two groups of Plastic Surgery Patients.
The researchers looked at 2 patient groups. The first group, included 10 patients who experienced a hematoma (bleeding) after excisional body contouring surgery with perioperative Lovenox®. The second group, included 10 similar patients with respect to sex, surgery type, massive weight loss status, and Lovenox®, who did not have bleeding or hematoma. They looked to see what factors may have made a difference?
So, where are the Risks with Lower Bodylift.
According to the study, with lower bodylift surgery there is always a risk of developing deep vein thrombosis, either during or soon after surgery. Blood thinners work to reduce these risks, but what about bleeding?
The studyy looked at the mean arterial blood pressure before, during and after surgery. The mean pressure before plastic surgery for each group was the same (97.5 mm Hg vs 95.8 mm Hg). The mean MAP for the last 2 hours of surgery was significantly lower in the group with bleeding (66.7 mm Hg vs 82.4 mm Hg), and a higher mean arterial pressure after surgery reached significance in the group which experienced bleeding (96.3 mm Hg vs 88.5 mm Hg).
Both the difference between intraoperative versus the preoperative blood pressure (30.7 mm Hg vs 13.4 mm Hg) and between intraoperative versus postoperative blood pressure (29.6 mm Hg vs 7.0 mm Hg) were increased in the bleeding group versus the non-bleeding group.
Recommendations for Plastic Surgeons.
Prophylactic use of low molecular weight heparin, like Lovenox® works for decreasing blood clots from surgery and anesthesia. According to this study, maintaining a normal blood pressure during surgery and recognizing and treating high blood pressure after lower bodylift may reduce the bleeding and hematoma rate with the use of Lovenox®.
We hope that this 3-part blog helps all our patients to understand a little but more about the risk and potential complications of plastic surgery and what we can do to reduce the risks! Also, don’t forget that we have a newly scheduled Seminar about Plastic Surgery after Major Weight Loss on February 2nd, 2011.
Lower Body Lift, MAP, and Lovenox: II.
0Scottsdale – This is the second part of a three part blog series in which we discuss the relationship between lower body lift, mean arterial pressure and low molecular weight heparin, like Lovenox®.
We learned in first blog the deep vein thrombosis are a risk of all surgery, including cosmetic surgery.
Lower Body Lift Surgery: Managing the Risks.
Plastic surgeons always want to reduce the rate of complications. One of the best therapies to reduce the risks of deep vein clotting complications is the use of blood thinners. In a perfect world, the blood thinner would only thin out the blood enough to reduce the risks of blood clots. In other words, the thinning of the blood would stop short of creating major bleeding complications. Unfortunately, we do not live in a perfect world!
Excellent risk reduction in Lower Body Lift Surgery.
As your cosmetic surgeon is managing your risks after lower body lift surgery a balance must be found in order to lower the risks of blood clots while minimizing the risks of bleeding after cosmetic surgery. Clinical studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of low molecular weight heparin, like Lovenox, in reducing the risks in a variety of major operations. Bleeding, albeit at a low rate, has always been a major side effect of this therapy across studies. This medication offers excellent risk reduction when appropriately used.
The risk reduction across Cosmetic Surgery operations.
The management of the plastic surgery patient’s blood pressure will have an affect on the risks of bleeding with lower bodylift, tummy tuck and thigh lift when low molecular weight heparin is used to reduce the risks of blood clots. There is a fine balance that must be achieved and this will be discussed in greater detail in our third portion of this blog.
An announcement will be made soon on the blog about the date for our next Plastic Surgery after Major Weight Loss Seminar. Please stay tuned. The seminar is given by Board certified Plastic Surgeon, Aldo B. Guerra MD, FACS.
