A composite body contouring procedure is a combination plastic surgery operation. The Composite includes a tummy tuck, liposuction of the body, and fat injections to the buttocks. In many cases, the liposuction can be circumferential and may include lipo of the upper and lower back, love handles and extremities.

A special technique is used to perform the tummy tuck which preserves the oxygen supply to the skin and can reduce the risks of wound healing complications. Restoration of buttock contour with fat transfer can be used to give patients a better shape to the buttocks. The outer thighs are another popular location for fat grafting.

It is very important  to provide the greatest amount of safety for our patients when performing Composite Body Contouring and the key to perform this cosmetic surgery operation only in a surgical facility that can admit patients for recovery and observation for at least 24 hours after surgery. I use a specialty surgery hospital that is specifically designed to meet the needs of cosmetic plastic surgery patients.

Also known as, “the composite”, this operation is a variation of the “mommy makeover” concept of combining multiple procedures to reverse the changes associated with pregnancy. Published studies demonstrate that the combination of cosmetic breast surgery and tummy tuck is safe when performed in an appropriate environment by qualified physicians. That combination of surgery is the classic “mommy makeover” duo I have performed since 2003.

On the other hand, “the composite” typically excludes breast surgery, but targets different areas that can affect women either post-pregnancy or with weight gain or loss, including the tummy, back, thighs and buttocks. Before and after photos can be found on our main website.

Arizona Lipo with Style.

Scottsdale – Liposuction is one of the most common plastic surgery operations performed. Liposuction typically leads to the permanent removal of fat containing cells from the body using a suction technique.

Why choose Liposuction?

Many people are unhappy about fat accumulated in different parts of their body. For that reason, liposuction has been the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure in the U. S. over the years. When liposuction first started it was nothing more than a technique to remove unwanted fat pockets. Several advancements have made liposuction safer and better. Modern techniques of liposuction can remove the unwanted fat, but also allow for sculpting of the body into a better shape. These modern advancements are important, but the experience of the surgeon is usually considered more important to achieving a good result with lipo than any other factor.

Lipo Advancements used in our Scottsdale Practice.

Some of the advancements used in our practice include tumescent liposuction technique for safer anesthesia, micro-cannula liposuction for a smoother contour, ultrasound lipo and laser liposuction to gently remove stubborn fat pockets, and lymphatic massage which allows the body to recuperate faster. The most popular areas for liposuction include the abdomen, hips, back, thighs, knees, upper arms, buttocks, cheeks and neck. This procedure is very popular because the recovery time is typically short, there is minimal pain and only tiny incisions. Keep in mind, that when more areas are treated with liposuction, the longer the recovery. When more fat volume is removed, more swelling and bruising is seen after surgery. Recovery for most patients is usually less than 2 weeks.

On the Safety of Liposuction.

Liposuction is safe when performed in a certified plastic surgery center with appropriate anesthesia personnel. Liposuction is not a weight loss method because there are limitations as to how much fat can be removed at one time. We recommend patients be as close as possible to their ideal body weight before having plastic surgery. A good diet and exercise regiment helps to keep you in shape before and after surgery. We recommend you consult with an experienced board certified plastic surgeon for your lipo procedure. Our philosophy includes the belief that better liposuction always occurs when logical steps are used by the cosmetic surgeon to improve the outcome while minimizing the potential risks. Patients, of course, play a major role in deciding how much volume and where the procedure should be carried out.

Scottsdale – Recently a plastic surgery in Arizona patient and I had a conversation about liposuction in Mexico. This particular individual wanted lipo of the love handles and hips to achieve an hourglass appearance. She told me that in Mexico, “they are leaving them very thin after liposuction”.

Our patient was looking for a similar result. I explained that I often see patients who had liposuction in Mexico and other cosmetic surgery procedures as well. It is true that liposuction is a popular cosmetic surgery procedure south of the border. I would caution patients about traveling for any plastic surgery procedure, however.

Revision liposuction in Arizona.

For liposuction, in particular, I have been asked to revise several patients over the past few years who had liposuction in Mexico. In most cases, the liposuction performed was very aggressive, in the deep fat layer, and the superficial fat layer as well.

Overly-aggressive lipo in both fat planes is associated with moderate to severe contour deformity. While the patients may indeed look thinner (in their clothes), a close inspection of their figure, often times, identifies small and deep craters due to the removal of a normal fat layer.

The treatment for this issue is fat grafting. In some cases, the deformity is so severe that multiple operations may be required to obtain enough viable fat and create a smooth surface once again. Fat transfer or fat injection is the most reliable method to correct these crates and dimples.

On the other hand, using sound technique and avoiding an over aggressive approach has great dividends for both patient and plastic surgeon. I advise patients to consider carefully the risks of lipo and consult with a board certified plastic surgeon before proceeding with major plastic surgery of the body.
