Medications for Breast Augmentation.

Scottsdale – For your safety, comfort, and convenience we provide several important medications that you should understand and use after your breast augmentation. These medications will also help you to achieve a better result with breast implants. Taking your medications and following all the instructions for before and after your surgery, will improve your experience and the results of surgery.
Antibiotics for Plastic Surgery:
Antibiotics are important to reduce the risk of infection with all surgery. A short course of antibiotics is given to patients receiving breast implants after breast augmentation. Giving patients antibiotics for long periods could have potential side effects and are not recommended for longer than 3 days for the typical breast implant surgery.
Pain Medications for Breast Augmentation:
Your pain medications will help to keep you comfortable. Too much pain medication is not good for you. When too much pain medication is given serious side effects can occur, such as, dizziness, light-headedness, nausea, sedation, and vomiting. If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately: difficulty breathing, fever, rash, and weakness.
Muscle Relaxants for Breast Implants:
A muscle relaxant is a drug which affects skeletal muscle function and decreases the muscle tone. It may be used to alleviate symptoms such as muscle spasms, pain, and hyperreflexia. Taking too much muscle relaxant can cause serious side effects including, drowsiness, dizziness, clumsiness, headache, fast heart rate, upset stomach, vomiting, and skin rash. If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately: difficulty breathing, fever, weakness, and burning in the eyes.
Anti-Nausea Medications for Silicone Breast Implants:
Anti-nausea medications are important in reducing the risk of postoperative nausea and vomiting with anesthesia and cosmetic surgery. Taking too much anti-nausea medications can cause serious side effects including, drowsiness, dizziness, clumsiness, headache, and skin rash. Drowsiness is the most prominent effect of this drug. If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately: blurred vision, confusion, and disorientation.

Scottsdale – Breast augmentation is the most popular plastic surgery procedure. A priority, for most women, when seeking breast augmentation is to choose a breast implant size that best suits their goals. We also believe that deciding on your new breast cup is the most important decision when it comes to creating satisfactory outcome after cosmetic surgery of the breasts. Fortunately, the final breast cup can be derived at, using common sense advice.
Common sense advice for Breast Augmentation.
First, we must look at what the patient brings to the consultation. We must consider the height and weight of the patient. We also look at the proportions. We must consider the current bra size and chest measurements. Patients who are taller and wider can accept and look great with bigger breast implants. The more petite the person, the more difficult it becomes for them to accept bigger implants.
Factors in choosing a certain breast implant size.
Second, we must consider what looks good on your body. This is determined by two important factors. The first factor has to do with your actual physical proportions. The second factor is more dependent on society, where you live, and what sizes are considered acceptable. For instance, living in Scottsdale, patients spend plenty of time outside in the sun and larger breast implants are more acceptable. The situation might be different if you live on the east coast. Patients usually choose smaller implants in this part of the country because outdoor activities are not as popular.
Bigger breast implants not always better.
Third, having a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon, is one of the most important decisions you can make. During the consultation we rely on three basic techniques to derive our recommendation for a certain size. We will perform clinical measurements of your breasts, we provide a variety of breast implant sizers for you to try on while in clinic, and we will show you before and after photos of previous patients and their results.
We will encourage you to choose the size you believe will make you the happiest, but review the pros and cons of that size. We encourage all patients to consider the downside and upside of bigger breast implants. Scottsdale – This is just a reminder about the Mommy Makeover seminar coming up next week.
Mommy makeovers are popular because women have children. There is no doubt that having a child is one of the most fulfilling experiences a woman can have in life. Some women, however, feel self-conscious about the effects of pregnancy on their body. The body of a woman who has been through pregnancy is never truly the same. The usual problem areas are: the breasts, the tummy, the buttocks and the fat pockets. In the tummy we see stretching of the stomach muscles and tummy skin with pregnancy. The breasts are usually affected by increasing elasticity and softness. Breasts may also sag. The hips, back and thighs may accumulate fat that may not go away completely after pregnancy. The buttocks, may also soften up, become flatter and less round and begin to sag.
Mommy makeovers are combination procedures used to treat the areas that change during pregnancy. The plastic surgery techniques improve the shape and size of the breasts, lift the breasts, tighten the tummy muscles and skin, remove stretchmarks and excess skin, reduce stubborn fat pockets and lift the pregnancy butt. In my practice there are 4 major variations of the mommy makeover offered to patients including tummy tuck with breast augmentation, tummy tuck with breast lift, tummy tuck with breast reduction and tummy tuck with Brazilian butt lift.
We recommend patients prioritize the areas important to them, so we can appropriately discuss these interests and create a reasonable treatment plan that addresses your needs. Understanding Capsular Contracture: Part I.

Scottsdale – When we discuss breast augmentation with our plastic surgery patients, we discuss Capsular Contracture. What is capsular contracture?
A capsular contracture occurs when the lining of scar tissue which naturally forms around breast implants begins to tighten and becomes quite firm.
When saline or silicone breast implants are placed in the body, your body forms a lining around it. This phenomenon is normal and occurs with every type of implant which is placed in the human body. The lining or capsule is formed by your own living tissue. Plastic surgeons refer to this lining as the “capsule”, “tissue capsule”, or “scar capsule”.
Capsule contracture is the most common complication of breast augmentation surgery. It can can happen at any time, but seems to be more common in the first several months after cosmetic surgery of the breasts.
At the time of the initial breast surgery, a pocket is made for the breast implant. During the healing process, a capsule forms. The body is genetically programmed to shrink scar tissue. Under normal conditions, the pocket remains open and soft, allowing the breasts to look and feel natural.
In some people, the capsule will tighten, and squeeze the breast implant. When the capsule tightens or contracts, the breast implants begin to feel hard. With enough pressure, the breasts appear distorted in appearance.
In the late stages of capsular contracture, the breasts feel very firm, and may take on a “ball-like” appearance. It is not the implant that has hardened. It is the shrinking of the capsule which compresses the breast implant that leads to the breast feeling firm and hard.

Scottsdale – The Scottsdale Mommy Makeover Seminar is tomorrow! We are happy to announce all seats have been reserved and our presentation is ready.
Tomorrow, in the breast surgery section, we plan to discuss breast augmentation, silicone breast implants, saline breast implants, breast cup size, incisions for breast enhancement, and recovery after breast enlargement. We will also discuss breast lift, breast reduction and breast lift with or without breast implants.
In the body contouring section, we plant to discuss tummy tuck techniques, including mini tummy tuck, tummy tuck with liposuction, and tummy tuck or bodylift after pregnancy and major weight loss. We will also discuss liposuction and fat transfer.

Topics for a Mommy Makeover Seminar
Scottsdale – This week on Wednesday April 21, 2010 at our plastic surgery center in north Scottsdale, we are holding our first Scottsdale Mommy Makeover seminar. Many mommies have called to reserve a spot and to ask about the topics for the evening. We encourage those interested to call or RSVP online as soon as possible, as seating is limited and our reservations are almost filled.
During the evening, we are going to speak about the plastic surgery procedures which can help a “mommy” restore the body they had before pregnancy. We are going to focus on the major areas affected by childbearing including the breast plastic surgery, tummy tucks and the buttocks area with a Scottsdale Brazilian Butt Lift. Dr. Aldo Guerra will also mention, for those interested in facial surgery, some facts about a Scottsdale facelift and eyelid lift surgery.
The evening will begin with a discussion about breast surgery. The first topic will highlight breast augmentation surgery, including silicone breast implants compared to saline breast implants, breast surgery incisions and recovery. Dr. Guerra will demonstrate before and after photos of breast augmentation. Participants will have the opportunity to handle silicone and saline breast implants, and ask plenty of questions about cosmetic surgery of the breasts.
The discussion about breast surgery, will include the popular techniques used for breast lift and breast reduction. Participants will be able to see before and after photos of various breast lift patterns, including the areola breast lift, the vertical or lollipop breast lift and the anchor or wise pattern breast lift pattern. Next, we will focus on the abdominal area. The most popular plastic surgery procedure after childbirth in most mommy makeovers is the tummy tuck.
