In the Army: Get Liposuction.
0Scottsdale – A recent report shows us that U.S. soldiers are going to extremes, including, taking diet pills, laxatives, even starving themselves and getting liposuction to meet the military’s weight standards.
“Liposuction saved my career — laxatives and starvation before an (Physical Fitness Test) sustains my career, ” an anonymous soldier told the Army Times paper.
According to the report more than a third of uniformed men and women do not meet the Army’s weight standards, based on the 2009 military fitness report, and those officers are subjected to dreaded tape measurements to determine body fat percentage. When a soldier exceeds the body fat limits, they cannot earn leadership roles or promotions the paper said.
Liposuction is a procedure which requires anesthesia and excess fat is extracted using hollow tubes by a plastic surgeon. Lipo can remove between half to 5 liters of unwanted fat in one operation.
Officers can even lose their jobs if they do not shed a significant amount weight in two months – a very real threat, considering about 24,000 soldiers were discharged between 1992 and 2007 for failure to meet weight standards, according to a report published in Military Medicine.
“I have been on a roller coaster of gains and losses for half my military career,” one lieutenant colonel told the Army Times. “I have considered lipo, and I have certainly starved myself, dieted on only bread and water, or other similar extreme diets to make weight or tape … And it is no secret to any leader in the military what some soldiers will do to conform to standards that have been set.”
Website Updates: Tummy Tuck Photos
0Scottsdale – This week you will see our newest updates on our before and after plastic surgery photos for tummy tuck. We added 10 more sets of photos to expand our list of tummy tuck results to 82 cases. Prospective patients can access these photo pages and view typical results for body contouring of the abdomen in the comfort of their own home.
One might notice that a large proportion of patients also had liposuction of the hips which reduces the waistline and typically results in a smaller waist. We also updated the Brazilian butt lift photo gallery.
With Thanksgiving coming soon, I anticipate we will be able to update many of our before and after photos. We are currently very backed up on the breast lift photos, gynecomastia photos and the mommy makeover sections. With the extra days of the holiday we should have the time to get most of these done.
While prospective plastic surgery patients may see our excellent results, we remind all that individual results may vary from patient to patient.
Verbalizing: Tummy Tuck & Lipo.
0Scottsdale – It is important to have good communication between plastic surgeon and plastic surgery patients. That’s why I’m starting the Verbalizing series….
This is a summary of what I tell patients about the safe and popular combination of tummy tuck and liposuction:
I explain how liposuction works and where it can be done safely during tummy tuck.I mentioned that I prefer to perform conservative liposuction that reduces blood loss with the tumescent technique.
In my opinion, conservative liposuction usually leads to less complications and better results. The most common complication of liposuction includes dimpling of the skin and depressions in the fat layer. Scaring and permanent skin color changes are common too.
I tell patients that cellulite does not get better, routinely, with liposuction.
Liposuction can increase th risk of skin death in the tummy tuck skin, even when conservatively performed. It is, therefore, very important not to smoke 6 weeks before tummy tuck and use the breathing machine we provide all patients after cosmetic surgery to expand your lungs.
Most patients have good outcomes and appreciate a smaller waistline with the popular combination of tummy tuck and lipo. There are limitations on how much fat can safely be removed from patients when performing a combination procedure like this.
Arizona Liposuction: Lipo with Style.
0Scottsdale – Liposuction is one of the most common plastic surgery operations performed. Liposuction typically leads to the permanent removal of fat containing cells from the body using a suction technique.
Why choose Liposuction?
Many people are unhappy about fat accumulated in different parts of their body. For that reason, liposuction has been the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure in the U. S. over the years. When liposuction first started it was nothing more than a technique to remove unwanted fat pockets. Several advancements have made liposuction safer and better. Modern techniques of liposuction can remove the unwanted fat, but also allow for sculpting of the body into a better shape. These modern advancements are important, but the experience of the surgeon is usually considered more important to achieving a good result with lipo than any other factor.
Lipo Advancements used in our Scottsdale Practice.
Some of the advancements used in our practice include tumescent liposuction technique for safer anesthesia, micro-cannula liposuction for a smoother contour, ultrasound lipo and laser liposuction to gently remove stubborn fat pockets, and lymphatic massage which allows the body to recuperate faster. The most popular areas for liposuction include the abdomen, hips, back, thighs, knees, upper arms, buttocks, cheeks and neck. This procedure is very popular because the recovery time is typically short, there is minimal pain and only tiny incisions. Keep in mind, that when more areas are treated with liposuction, the longer the recovery. When more fat volume is removed, more swelling and bruising is seen after surgery. Recovery for most patients is usually less than 2 weeks.
On the Safety of Liposuction.
Liposuction is safe when performed in a certified plastic surgery center with appropriate anesthesia personnel. Liposuction is not a weight loss method because there are limitations as to how much fat can be removed at one time. We recommend patients be as close as possible to their ideal body weight before having plastic surgery. A good diet and exercise regiment helps to keep you in shape before and after surgery. We recommend you consult with an experienced board certified plastic surgeon for your lipo procedure. Our philosophy includes the belief that better liposuction always occurs when logical steps are used by the cosmetic surgeon to improve the outcome while minimizing the potential risks. Patients, of course, play a major role in deciding how much volume and where the procedure should be carried out.
Liposuction: Tips for Patients.
0Scottsdale – Liposuction is a plastic surgery procedure used to remove unwanted fat deposits and give the human body a new shape. Fat is removed from under the skin with the use of a vacuum/suction machine and a cannula (a hollow pen-like device) or using an ultrasound lipo or laser lipo probe that breaks up fat into smaller pieces. The fat still has to be removed with a suction vacuum.
Liposuction may be performed on the abdomen, hips, thighs, calves, arms, buttocks, back, neck, and face. Lipo can also be used to reduce the breast size in men with large breasts or to remove fat tumors. A liposuction surgery may include more than one location treated on the body on the same day.
Patients with localized fat may decide to have liposuction to remove fat from that area. Liposuction is a procedure for shaping the body and is not recommended for weight loss.
Not all liposuction surgeries are performed by plastic surgeons. Some are performed by dermatologists and other types of physicians. In fact, any licensed physician may perform liposuction. While some professional societies recommend training before performing liposuction surgery, no standardized training is required for most doctors. As a result, there will be differences in experience and training in physicians performing liposuction.
On the other hand, board certified plastic surgeons are required to complete training in liposuction during their lengthy residency training. You should ask your physician to tell you whether he or she has had specialized training in liposuction. You should also ask how many successful liposuction procedures are performed on a regular basis.
Even the healthiest patients under the care of the best trained and experienced physicians may experience complications as a result of liposuction.
Liposuction is a surgical procedure and should be performed in a sterile environment.Ninety percent of liposuction procedures are performed as outpatient surgery in:
- the doctor’s office.
- a plastic surgery center (most recommended).
- a hospital setting.
