The Rolls and the Extended Tummy Tuck.

0

Scottsdale – Plastic surgery clients requiring the extended tummy tuck surgery are very common. One of the biggest issues faced by these patients include the development of very large “rolls” of skin. Typically, the rolls develop and get worse with weight loss. These can be quite dramatic.

When discussing options with cosmetic surgery patients about best ways to reduce these rolls, I often discuss using an extended tummy tuck or lower bodylift. These plastic surgery operations are usually very effective because they both allow very significant amounts of excessive skin to be removed. The biggest difference between the two operations has to do with the length of the incision and the level of contouring that is created.

With lower bodylift, more skin is removed in the back of the body and the patient benefits from a buttock lift and an outer thigh lift. The incision goes all the way around the body in a belt-like fashion. For this reason, this operation is sometimes called the belt lipectomy. This type of circumferential incision may be seen as too aggressive by some clients.

If that is the case , an extended tummy tuck might be a better option to reduce the length of the incision. Patients must have realistic expectations, as the incision is still longer than with the average tummy tuck. There is no problem using liposuction with extended tummy tuck, as long as, lipo is performed conservatively preserving the major oxygen and nutrient supply to the skin. No significant buttock lift or thigh lift is seen with the extended tummy tuck.

Questions on tumescent liposuction?

Scottsdale – Tumescent liposuction, what is it?

Tumescent liposuction use several liters of a saline solution with a local anesthetic lidocaine and blood vessel constricting adrenaline is infused under the skin in the area that is to be suctioned. Adrenaline minimizes bleeding, bruising and post-operative swelling.

When the fat is liposuctioned through small suction tubes (cannulas) the tumescent fluid minimizes trauma to the body. This is the most popular method of lipo or liposuction.

The amount of liquid placed into the area may be up to three times the amount of fat to be removed. This volume of fluids creates a space between the muscle and the fatty tissue, allowing more maneuverability for the cannula.
