Scottsdale – Dr. Aldo Guerra presented an informative lecture on Combination Augmentation Gluteoplasty – Abdominoplasty for the Arizona Plastic Surgery Society on Wednesday October 12, 2011. Dr. Aldo discussed this plastic surgery combination by highlighting the history and data that has been collected previously and comparing it to his results. He used a variety of tables and photos to demonstrate the different available techniques and options. It was very interesting learning about the evolution of both the gluteal and abdominal plastic surgery procedures that have developed over the years.

Website Updates: Tummy Tuck Photos

Scottsdale – This week you will see our newest updates on our before and after plastic surgery photos for tummy tuck. We added 10 more sets of photos to expand our list of tummy tuck results to 82 cases. Prospective patients can access these photo pages and view typical results for body contouring of the abdomen in the comfort of their own home.
One might notice that a large proportion of patients also had liposuction of the hips which reduces the waistline and typically results in a smaller waist. We also updated the Brazilian butt lift photo gallery.
With Thanksgiving coming soon, I anticipate we will be able to update many of our before and after photos. We are currently very backed up on the breast lift photos, gynecomastia photos and the mommy makeover sections. With the extra days of the holiday we should have the time to get most of these done.
While prospective plastic surgery patients may see our excellent results, we remind all that individual results may vary from patient to patient.

Scottsdale – It is important to have good communication between plastic surgeon and plastic surgery patients. That’s why I’m starting the Verbalizing series….
This is a summary of what I tell patients about the safe and popular combination of tummy tuck and liposuction:
I explain how liposuction works and where it can be done safely during tummy tuck.I mentioned that I prefer to perform conservative liposuction that reduces blood loss with the tumescent technique.
In my opinion, conservative liposuction usually leads to less complications and better results. The most common complication of liposuction includes dimpling of the skin and depressions in the fat layer. Scaring and permanent skin color changes are common too.
I tell patients that cellulite does not get better, routinely, with liposuction.
Liposuction can increase th risk of skin death in the tummy tuck skin, even when conservatively performed. It is, therefore, very important not to smoke 6 weeks before tummy tuck and use the breathing machine we provide all patients after cosmetic surgery to expand your lungs.
Most patients have good outcomes and appreciate a smaller waistline with the popular combination of tummy tuck and lipo. There are limitations on how much fat can safely be removed from patients when performing a combination procedure like this.

Scottsdale – Composite Body Contouring is a relatively new topic in plastic surgery. So, what is it?
A composite body contouring procedure is a combination plastic surgery operation. The Composite includes a tummy tuck, liposuction of the body, and fat injections to the buttocks. In many cases, the liposuction can be circumferential and may include lipo of the upper and lower back, love handles and extremities.
A special technique is used to perform the tummy tuck which preserves the oxygen supply to the skin and can reduce the risks of wound healing complications. Restoration of buttock contour with fat transfer can be used to give patients a better shape to the buttocks. The outer thighs are another popular location for fat grafting.
It is very important to provide the greatest amount of safety for our patients when performing Composite Body Contouring and the key to perform this cosmetic surgery operation only in a surgical facility that can admit patients for recovery and observation for at least 24 hours after surgery. I use a specialty surgery hospital that is specifically designed to meet the needs of cosmetic plastic surgery patients.
Also known as, “the composite”, this operation is a variation of the “mommy makeover” concept of combining multiple procedures to reverse the changes associated with pregnancy. Published studies demonstrate that the combination of cosmetic breast surgery and tummy tuck is safe when performed in an appropriate environment by qualified physicians. That combination of surgery is the classic “mommy makeover” duo I have performed since 2003.
On the other hand, “the composite” typically excludes breast surgery, but targets different areas that can affect women either post-pregnancy or with weight gain or loss, including the tummy, back, thighs and buttocks. Before and after photos can be found on our main website.

Midline rift: making you look fit after tummy tuck.

A midline rift is a sign of health.
Scottsdale – Having a healthy looking tummy after tummy tuck is an important aspect of the surgical technique used in my practice. One of the mainstays of the healthy tummy is the midline rift. The midline rift is the natural shallow depression that occurs in the center of the body.
The midline depression can be achieved with tummy tuck surgery. The surgically created midline depression makes it look like the patient works out after surgery. The depression is created with liposuction. The belly button incision is used to place a lipo cannula to remove just the right amount of unwanted fat from the area. Once the rift is created, the belly button incision is closed.
The midline rift is a bonus for the patient. Any patient that requests this additional procedure can have it as part of their tummy tuck surgery. However, not everyone is a good candidate for this additional procedure. A consultation with me at our Scottsdale, Arizona office can provide you with more information. Scottsdale mommy makeovers: It's in the details!

Scottsdale – The reason mommy makeovers are popular is that many women are having children. We all know the changes. The body of a woman who has been through pregnancy is never truly the same. The usual problem areas are: the breasts, the tummy, the buttocks and the fat pockets. Many women cannot recognize themselves and others feel like their body no longer belongs to them.
There is no doubt that having a child is one of the most fulfilling experiences a woman can have. Some women, however, feel self-conscious about the effects of pregnancy. Pregnancy takes its toll on a mother’s body. Stretching of the stomach muscles and tummy skin is normal with pregnancy. The breasts are usually affected by increasing elasticity and softness.
